About Us
Reinvest Birmingham is a federally funded workforce and economic development initiative led by the City of Birmingham to expand economic opportunities in the North Birmingham, Northside, Pratt, and Smithfield communities.
Who We Are
Backed by a $20 million investment through the U.S. Department of Commerce Economic Development Administration’s Recompete Pilot Program, Reinvest Birmingham is led by the City of Birmingham and built in partnership with local employers, training providers, and community organizations.
What We Do
We connect residents in the North Birmingham, Northside, Pratt, and Smithfield communities to workforce training, career pathways, entrepreneur support, and essential services. By addressing the real barriers that keep people out of the workforce — transportation, childcare, and limited local opportunity — we help residents build stable futures. While the Reinvest grant prioritizes services for community residents aged 25 to 54, services are available to all residents regardless of age.
Why It Matters
These communities have faced decades of limited investment. Reinvest Birmingham is a direct commitment to change that. Every program, partnership, and resource we provide is designed to strengthen neighborhood economies and ensure that every resident has a real path to opportunity, meaningful employment, and long-term stability.

Workforce Training
We partner with a broad network of training providers and local employers to connect residents to careers in construction, logistics, advanced manufacturing, and professional services. Training is intentionally aligned with what employers are actively hiring for, ensuring residents are prepared for real opportunities — whether they’re entering the workforce for the first time, advancing their career, or returning after a gap.

Connecting People to Good Jobs
In collaboration with BJCTA (Max Transit), we are working to reduce transportation barriers and improve mobility access to employment, training, childcare, and essential services.

Childcare Center of Excellence
Through the Childcare Center of Excellence, Reinvest Birmingham is expanding access to quality childcare while strengthening the local childcare ecosystem. Led by a network of partners, this effort includes a new Early Learning Center serving approximately 100 children, capacity-building support for new and existing childcare providers, and workforce development opportunities for individuals pursuing careers in early childhood education.

Entrepreneurship Center of Growth and Excellence
The Entrepreneurship Center for Growth and Excellence serves as Birmingham’s central hub for small business support — connecting aspiring and existing entrepreneurs to technical assistance, mentorship, capital readiness, and business development resources through a coordinated network of partners, advisors, and employ

The foundation of Reinvest Birmingham is a governance model designed to provide leadership, accountability, and coordination necessary to implement the initiative successfully. This model ensures alignment and sustainability across all program activities.
