Q: Does it cost anything to participate?

Reinvest Birmingham’s core programs and services are available to eligible residents at no cost. In some cases, participants may be responsible for certain expenses related to employment requirements. The initiative is funded through a $20 million federal investment dedicated to supporting the community.

Q: What if I haven't been in school or training for a long time?

That’s exactly who this program is designed for. Training pathways are built to meet you where you are, and our team will help you get ready, no matter how long it’s been.

Q: Do I need a college degree to qualify for training programs?

No. Many of our workforce training pathways do not require a college degree and are designed to connect residents to in-demand careers based on skills, not credentials alone.

Q: What kind of jobs can I access through Reinvest Birmingham?

The initiative connects residents to a range of in-demand careers through employer partnerships across Birmingham. Pathways include opportunities for entry-level roles as well as positions with room to advance into higher-paying or management positions.

Q: I have young children. Can I still participate?

Yes. Reinvest Birmingham is actively expanding childcare access, including a new childcare center serving approximately 100 children. Support is available to help parents and caregivers participate in training and employment.

Q: What if I don't have reliable transportation to get to training?

Transportation support is part of the program. We’re working with transit partners to expand service frequency in your neighborhood and reduce travel time to training and job sites.

Q: I own a small business. Is there anything for me?

Yes. Reinvest Birmingham supports entrepreneurs at any stage through business resources and a new Entrepreneurship Center. Whether you’re just starting out or ready to hire your first employee, there’s support available for you.

Reinvest Birmingham is a City of Birmingham initiative backed by a $20 million federal investment. We connect residents in the North Birmingham, Northside, Pratt, and Smithfield communities to job training, career pathways, and support services that lead to stable, long-term careers.

Getting to a better job isn’t always simple. Transportation, childcare, and time away from work are real obstacles. Reinvest Birmingham was built around those realities. We work alongside local employers, training providers, and community organizations to make sure opportunity is within reach, whether you’re re-entering the workforce, ready to advance, or starting a business.
